Introduction
The Gateway is a secure virtual appliance that contains instrumentation necessary to discover and monitor and manage IT resources, such as:
- Switches
- Routers
- Firewalls
- Storage arrays
Login accounts
The OpsRamp gateway has two user accounts, admin
and ruser
.
Both accounts help in activities related to admin, configuration, and basic troubleshooting.
admin
: This user account is used to access Gateway Web interface and Command Line Interface for admin activities, such as Registration, date and time change, and network setting.ruser
: This user account is used to access Gateway Command Line Interface to perform basic troubleshooting activities, such as ping and SNMP walk.
Gateway updates
OpsRamp publishes updates to firmware that runs within the gateway, on a regular basis. These updates are driven by security patches, bug fixes and new features. There are two types of firmware updates:
- Minor updates that accompany OpsRamp releases. These are published roughly every 3 months.
- Major updates that are published when the underlying OS behind the firmware goes on End-of-Life (EOL). Major updates are published roughly every 18 months.
Important
Gateways running unsupported firmware cannot connect to OpsRamp. Therefore, it is important to keep your gateways updated.Warning
The gateway is a virtual appliance that is designed to host OpsRamp software only. The gateway will not stop working if you install any non-OpsRamp published software in the virtual appliance.What to do next
