Introduction

This section of the document explains the procedure to integrate Windows resources with OpsRamp.

OpsRamp configuration

Configuration involves:

  1. Creating credentials.
  2. Configuring the integration.
  3. Adding a discovery profile.

Step 1: Create a credential

To create credentials:

  1. From All Clients, select a client.
  2. Go to Setup > Accounts > Clients.
  3. On the client’s Credentials tab, add the credential information.

Step 2: Create a management profile

To integrate:

  1. Go to Setup > Resources > Management Profiles.
  2. Click Add, provide the following:
    • Client Name:
    • Profile Type: Agent
    • Device Type: Windows
    • Provide name
  3. Click Submit.

Step 3: Add a discovery profile

To add a discovery profile:

  1. Go to Setup > Resources > Discovery and Deployment.
  2. Click Add and provide the following information:
    • Discovery Profile information:
      • Profile name
      • Discovery Type
      • Discovery Profile Type
    • Credentials
    • IP Address Details
    • Discovery schedule. Based on the settings, discovery is triggered based on the scheduled time. New resources added to the environment are automatically discovered.
  3. Click Finish.
  4. From the Discovery Profiles section and click Scan Now for the profile.

Windows configuration

Configuration involves:

  1. Configuring WMI domain users.
  2. Providing permissions.

Step 1: Configure WMI domain users

To create a domain user account for WMI monitoring with OpsRamp Gateway.

  1. Login to the domain controller.
  2. Click *Start, type dsa.msc, and OK.
  3. From Active Directory, right-click on the Users folder, point to New and click User.
  4. From the New object - User window, provide the user information.
    • To provide permissions to a user:
      1. Right-click on the username.
      2. Click Member Of.
      3. Add the username to required administrators groups. 
    • For example: Domain Administrators, Administrators, Enterprise Administrators.
  5. Click Next and Finish.
  6. Login to the domain with the username that was created.
  7. Change the password if prompted.
  8. Logout from domain controller.

Step 2: Provide permissions

To provide permissions:

  1. Click Start, type regedit, and OK.
  2. Find the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{76A64158-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6}
  3. Right-click on the registry key: {76A64158-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6} and click Permissions.
  4. Select Advanced > Owner > Add.
  5. Type opsramp.admin, click Check Name, and click OK.
  6. Select the user opsramp.admin and check the box Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
  7. Click Apply and OK.
  8. Select opsramp.admin user, check the box Full Control and OK.
  9. Login to the domain with the opsramp.admin username.
  10. Change the password if prompted and then Logout.

What to do next

After a discovery profile is created, you can do the following:

  • View the integration: Go to Infrastructure > Resources.
  • Assign monitoring templates to the resource.
  • Validate that the resource was successfully added to OpsRamp.
