Introduction

Application patching is used to install and update third-party applications in selected devices.

Installing applications

To install applications silently:

  1. Select a client from the All Clients list.
  2. Go to Automation > Application Patching > Install Applications.
    • The screen displays Welcome to Install Application Patch Management.
    • View the list of supported applications for Application patching on the left pane of the screen.
  3. Click Install Now. Install Application Patches displays Select Application screen.
  4. From Select Application, select the desired applications and click Next. Install Application Patches dialog display the Select Device screen.
  5. From Select Device, do the following steps:
    1. From Visibility to Devices section, select one of the following options:
      • All Devices: Select this option if you want to have visibility of all devices on the client list.
      • Selected Devices: Select this option if you want to have the visibility of a specific device. Install Application Patches screen displays Select Resource Groups and Select Devices sections after selecting the Resources option.
      • Select Resource Groups and Devices: Select this option if you want to have visibility of only the selected resources in the client list.
        • For Select Resource Group, select the desired resource group from Available Resource Groups and move to the Assigned Resource Groups.
        • For Select Devices, select a device category from Select Device Type. The devices are displayed with details.
        • Select the desired devices and click forward arrows to move to Assigned Devices.
    2. After selecting the devices, click Next. Install Application Patches dialog display the Confirm screen.
    3. Review the selected application, resource groups, and devices and unless you want to modify, click Confirm.
      The screen displays Confirmation: Application Patches Installed.

Creating application scan jobs

You can add the Application Scan Job to scan for applications installed in the device.

To create the Application scan job:

  1. From All Clientst, select a client.
  2. Go to Automation > Jobs and from the Jobs List, click Create.
    Note: If you did not select a client while navigating from Dashboards or Infrastructure page, OpsRamp displays a Select Client window. You must select the desired client to access the patch management features.
  3. From Add Job, provide details for the following parameters in Job Details section:
    • Select Client: Refers to the desired client name
    • Job Type: Refers to the reason for creating the job. For example, you can select the Application Scan to create a job to scan for applications.
    • Job Name: Refers to the unique name for the job process.
  4. After providing details in Job Details section, go to Job Schedule section.
  5. From Job Schedule, provide the following:
    • Start Date: Refers to the start date of the job process.
    • Recurrence Pattern: Refers to the pattern that you want to run the job.
      • Daily
      • Weekly
      • Monthly
      • Run Once
      • Never
    • Devices: Refers to the devices that you want to add for patching.
  6. Click Save.

After configuring the application scan job, run the job by clicking Run Now on the job list. Applications that are installed and supported by OpsRamp are visible to the user at the device level and client level.

Updating applications to the latest version

To update the applications to the latest version:

  1. Select a client from the All Clients list.
  2. Go Automation > Application Patching > Schedules and click Create.
  3. From Add Job, provide details for the following parameters in Job Details section:
    • Select Client: Refers to the desired client name.
    • Job Type: Refers to the reason for creating the job. For example, you can select the Application Update option to update the application patches.
    • Job Name: Refers to the unique name for the job process.
  4. After providing details in Job Details section, navigate to Job Schedule section.
  5. From Job Schedule, provide the details for the following details:
    • Start Date: Refers to the start date of the job process.
    • Recurrence Pattern: Refers to the pattern that you want to run the job.
      • Daily
      • Weekly
      • Monthly
      • Run Once
      • Never
    • Devices: Refers to the devices that you want to add for patching.
  6. After providing details in Job Schedule section, navigate to Approval Type section.
  7. From Approval Type, select one of the following options:
    • Manual Approve
    • Auto Approve
  8. Select Alert Required checkbox to receive alerts.
  9. Click Save.

The created job appears in the Job List page.

The Jobs List page displays the Client Name, Job Name, Job Type, Job Schedule, Devices, UUID, and Run Now. After configuring the Application Update job, run the job by clicking Run Now. Now the selected applications are updated to the latest versions after a certain period of time and updated versions are reflected in the console.

Viewing patch summaries at the resource-level

To view the application patch summaries at the resource-level:

  1. Select a client from the All Clients list.
  2. Go to Infrastructure, click the desired device and then click Device Details.
  3. Click Patches.

The device Detail screen displays the application patch summary.
